By November 2019, significant progress had been made on the renovation of the Annexe, with trenches dug out to accommodate the new water and drain pipes. This crucial step marked the beginning of a new phase, allowing the renovation work to continue smoothly.
One challenge faced at this time of year on the Isle of Anglesey, as in much of the UK, is the frequent visits from rain. The unpredictable weather can sometimes halt progress, making it a key factor in determining whether certain aspects of the renovation can proceed as planned. Fortunately, despite the usual downpours, the rain hasn’t been too disruptive, allowing the team to continue with their work without major delays.
As we look ahead, the big question remains: what’s next for the Annexe transformation? Will the changes be as impactful as anticipated? Find out below!
As shown in the before and after photos below, the transformation of the building has turned it from an empty, cold shell into a cozy and comfortable home.
The kitchen area only requires a few finishing touches: the edging strip for the worktop, a cupboard door, curtains for the window, and the partition wall for the bathroom door to slide into.
The lounge has transformed from a drafty, cold, and empty space into a cozy living area, complete with underfloor heating and insulated walls. The heating and insulation are so effective that during winter, we only need to have the heating on for two hours a day.
The “before” photo was taken when we were using the annexe as a storage space while living in the caravan. Although we initially tried to live in the annexe when we first moved to Anglesey, the interior was too cold and damp to be comfortable.
Now, aside from the cupboard doors and drawer fronts, the kitchen area has been transformed, contributing to the homely feel of the space.
The bedroom has transformed from a cold, damp space into a cozy double room, complete with a set of drawers and a small cupboard.
We are truly pleased with how the annexe feels now. It’s amazing to see how what was once an empty, cold shell has become a comfortable home.
With the annexe now complete, we can shift our focus to the cottage. The first task on our list is to repoint the stone walls.
